Chocolate - Heart Healthy and Delicious

Once again we update our search results for a heart-healthy chocolate. It was surprising to find a local retail source for dark chocolate. I tested many dark chocolates and find this one to be reasonable and healthy and packaged in a serving size. Moser-Roth chocolate is a delicious treat for connoisseurs of sophisticated gourmet chocolate. This chocolate is made with the finest quality ingredients, carefully prepared according to a classic recipe. Chocolate lovers will savor the strong aroma of dark chocolate blended with the best South American cocoas.
The ingredients are as follows: chocolate (cocoa liquor, sugar, cocoa butter, emulsifier soy-lecithin, flavor vanillin).
Allergy Information: Contains soybeans. Processed in a facility where milk, hazelnuts, almonds, peanuts and other nuts are present.
This product is made in Germany and recently purchased at the "ALDI" store.
Nutrition Facts: 2 pieces (50g). The package contains 5 bars and 2 ½ would be considered a serving. I consider each bar a serving. 2 pieces would contain 290 calories with 180 from fat. One piece would cut that amount in half to 145 calories and only 90 from fat. The total fat represents 31% total fat with 60% saturated fat. There is no trans fat, no cholesterol, 2 % sodium with total carbohydrates of 12g or 8%. Sugar content represents 6 ½g and dietary fiber of 1 ½g or 12% daily value. The protein represents only 2 ½ g. Vitamins A & C at 0% with Calcium at 15% and iron at 8%. All ingredients based on a 2,000 daily calorie diet.
The 5 bars are packaged as "Premium Dark Chocolate 70% Cocoa. The net weight of the 5 bars is 4.41 ounces or 125 grams. Divided by 5 would make one bar .88 ounces per bar. This would be my recommendation for a serving.
This fine European Chocolate is the best I have tasted with no side effects. Most chocolate results in exacerbated arthritic pain for me, but this chocolate caused no ill effects. The price for all 5 bars was $1.49 - a real bargain for such a fine product. The cost per bar is only 30 cents. I do not gain anything from the sale of this product. My intent is only to allow the healthy eaters to avail themselves of the best product at the best price with the best nutritional value (in my personal estimation).
I will continue in my search for fine nutritional sources at the best price to avail by readers of such products. Half the problem towards obtaining a healthier body is finding the products that meet the criteria. I enjoy chocolate, but must eat it in moderation. Like the special "wild blueberry juice", I limit myself to the moderate daily consumption of one ounce three times per day. Watching the sugar, carbohydrate and sodium content are important to me as a borderline diabetic. Life can bring pleasure when we limit ourselves to a moderate consumption.
The above product was purchased at Aldi Inc., whose headquarters are located in Batavia, Illinois 60510-1477. Their web site is: http://www.aldi.com/ .
Update as of February 18, 2007: Dark Chocolate as been found to contain flavanols which increase blood flow to the brain. We are on the right track and the world is turning towards a more complete assortment of health and nutrition to better serve us all. Eat healthy, love often, laugh a lot and live longer.
Chocolate has powerful anti-aging properties according to a longevity study from the British Medical Journal. Scientists discovered that men who eat just a few pieces of dark chocolate a month live significantly longer than those who don't. The reason is that chocolate is rich in phenols, the antioxidant found in red wine. Phenols are known to lower the risk of heart disease and cancer and boost your body's overall antioxidant capacity---creating a powerful weapon against all kinds of age-related problems.
